“BE SEEN” – July 14-15, 2016
In this session, we will be engaging with The Daring Way™, a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. During this process we explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame and worthiness. We examine the thoughts, emotions and behaviors that are holding us back and we identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent and lead.
Our work together will be about identifying our own personal values and how they light the way for us when we are in dark times. We will also spend time identifying how shame shows up in ourselves, and others, our reactions to shame, and who we can depend on to help support us during those challenging times. We will help identify what vulnerability is, as well as what the myths of vulnerability are that are no longer serving us. We will begin to experience how by integrating empathy and self-compassion into our lives, we work through shame without allowing it to define us.
In doing this work, we will also use the “Arena” as a metaphor. We will begin to identify who occupies the “Cheap seats”, the “Box seats”, the “Critics section”, and the “Support section” in our lives. Most importantly, in this life arena, where do we want to SHOW UP, BE SEEN, and LIVE BRAVE?
“Putting ourselves out there means there’s a far greater risk of getting criticized or feeling hurt. But when we step back and examine our lives, we will find that nothing is as uncomfortable, dangerous, or hurtful as standing on the outside looking in and wondering what it would be like if we had the courage to step into the Arena- whether it’s a new relationship, an important meeting, the creative process, or a difficult family conversation. Daring Greatly is a practice and a powerful new vision for letting ourselves be seen.”
