Mobilizing the caring power of women to improve lives.
WLC members constitute an ever-growing network of powerful women – over 2000 strong – who use their energy, talent, and passion to advocate for social change. Women who donate $1,000 or more on an annual basis are making a real change for people in need in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Members enjoy the opportunity to:
- Network with other local business women and community leaders
- Become informed on community issues, agencies and programs receiving United Way support
- Receive invitations to participate in exclusive events and high-impact volunteer opportunities
- Take a leadership role with United Way to address our community’s most critical needs
United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County Women’s Leadership Council launched United for Women in July 2013 to mobilize the power of women helping women. A growing need among women who were experiencing first-time financial crisis was revealed based on research, including data from our 211 helpline. This group understood the need to help other women in our community, especially newly struggling women who are one step away from a crisis. United for Women helped over 1,126 women in our 2015-16 campaign year.
In 2016, the WLC launched a new program, WLC’s TOGETHER (to get her) Leading! Through this program, WLC members can be role models for the next generation of members by sponsoring a young professional woman age 35 or under for up to two years. By making an additional gift of $500 to your current annual gift, you can help a young woman experience the all that the WLC and Bridges Society have to offer.
